Editing Content

There are two ways Contributors can edit content in their CarolinaContent Web sites. These are web-based form contribution and native document contribution. Depending on how your Web site was developed, you may use one or both of these methods.

Web-Based Form Contribution

The web-based form method allows you to log into your site from a browser window and make content updates within the built-in page editor.

You can access the web-based form editable content through the Edit Region Content icon or scroll over the Editor Pop-up menu to the see the options for editing that content region.

Content Server Configuration for the Web-Based Form

In order to edit your content in the web-based editor, you must set a configuration within the content server. View the instructions on how to make this configuration update.

Native Document Contribution

The native document contribution method launches the native application when the contributor edits the content. For example, when you navigate to your contribution environment and log into the CarolinaContent system, you are given the option to check out and open the piece of content as an Editor Pop-up menu option. If the content was created in Microsft Word, it would launch Word. Once you complete your updates and you save the document in Word, the changes are automatically loaded back into the CarolinaContent system and are pushed to the live site.

Note: “Check Out and Open” will not work on Macintosh computers nor Windows machines running Vista. Review the Macintosh documentation to learn how to edit native documents from a Mac or the Windows documentation to learn how to edit native documents when running the Vista OS.
Note: Some users have reported trouble when attempting to edit Help documents using Internet Explorer. In order to do so, IE requires an ActiveX control be installed. View the instructions on how to install this ActiveX control.

Editable Regions

Only the areas in the site with the Edit Region or Editor Pop-up menu icons are editable by contributors. Other areas of the site are part of the site template and cannot be changed by the contributors.
