This Saturday, November 14, the ITS Database Administration group will be performing a routine monthly database patch to the CarolinaContent production databases. The DBAs are patching a large number of databases that day so the specific outage time is difficult to predict.
If you experience issues adding or updating content on Saturday, it is likely that the database is being patched at that time. We will send an email and post a notice once the patch is complete and service has been restored.

On Wednesday, June 17, 2009 the CarolinaContent ECM platform was upgraded to Oracle UCM version 10gR4. This is the most current general availability version of the UCM platform and introduces improvements both for content Contributors and Web Services administrators. We're pleased to announce that our 3/26 point release went into production on time and without issues. Many of this week's changes were in response to specific group requests, so they may not be evident to everyone.

Following our formal training on March 10 and 11, we have discovered that a less formal, brown bag style session would be adequate training for many of our Help and ITS content contributors. With this in mind, we have scheduled six lunch-time opportunities for you to get the basics and get rolling managing your content.

With the introduction of CarolinaContent as the new platform for its.unc.edu and help.unc.edu, we have taken on a software platform approach to configuration management. Part of our approach includes weekly "Point" releases in which we deploy non-outage configuration changes such as template changes, fragment updates or layout changes.

First of all, another “thank you” to those who were able to attend our training sessions this week. We hope you found the experience helpful and worthwhile and look forward to any feedback you may have for us. At this point, those of you who did receive the training should have received an email with further instructions and the production URL for editing your ITS Web content and Help documentation as applicable.

It’s been almost a week since the soft launch of the ITS and Help sites. As you can imagine the CarolinaContent team has been busy managing content and addressing tickets that have come in post-launch. We have faced some challenges with links and URL redirects to content and pages that did not migrate, and we’ve been working with folks individually to address those issues and fix them as quickly as possible.
February 6, 2009
The CarolinaContent team has been hard at work this week getting ready for the soft launch of the new ITS and Help sites this evening (Friday, February 6). We’ve spent an intense six months learning the new technology and developing the new sites, and we’re about to wrap up the final testing and debugging phase of the project. After the sites launch today we will continue testing for the next few days and hope you’ll have a chance to visit the sites.

Now that development and the migration of content is complete for both the ITS and Help sites, the CarolinaContent team finds itself heavily focused on testing and fixing bugs in preparation for go-live which is currently planned for February 6. With only a few short weeks to accomplish the final tasks necessary to complete the project and launch on time, the team has decided to delay the training for ITS contributors for just a few more weeks. Training has been rescheduled for Tuesday, March 10 and Wednesday, March 11.
January 6, 2009
The CarolinaContent team worked through the holiday period and managed to nearly complete the migration tasks for the project. We’ve reached a point where we now need to ask for your support by implementing a content freeze as of January 12, 2009. We are asking that as of this date no additional edits be made to your respective sites or content until we go live, which is currently planned for February 6. This will ensure that the content that has migrated stays in synch with what is live today. Our hope is that with a “go live” date that is only four weeks from the freeze date, the impact will be minimal.
