Inactive Accounts Clean-up

ITS is working to clean up inactive accounts in Blackboard to improve system performance and security.

Accounts targeted for deletion (inactive) are:

• Onyen accounts which have never logged into https://blackboard.unc.edu
• non-Onyen accounts (accounts with more than 8 characters) which have NOT logged into https://blackboard.unc.edu after Sep 22, 2006

As a precautionary measure, accounts targeted for deletion will be disabled before they are permanently deleted.

Thus, accounts targeted for deletion will be:

• Disabled on September 22, 2009 at 8 AM
• Deleted on October 6, 2009 at 8 AM

Please note that, although a great effort has been made to prevent current users from being affected, we encourage all Blackboard users to log into http://blackboard.unc.edu at least once between Sep 22 and Oct 5, 2009 to confirm that their account has not been disabled (targeted for deletion). If you are unable to log into http://blackboard.unc.edu, please contact the help desk at 962-help(4357) or submit an Online Help Request.

Courses Exempted from Blackboard Outage

If you are a student or instructor of a course exempted from the Blackboard 8 update outage, you may access your courses at the temporary Blackboard system https://bbsummer.unc.edu  which will be available from  Tuesday, 28 July until 31 August, 2009.

Exempted courses will not be available in any system between Sep. 1 and Sep. 15 and they cannot be accessed from the permanent Blackboard site (https://blackboard.unc.edu) until Sep. 15, 2009.

Brief service interruptions during maintenance work scheduled for Friday, May 15, 2009 from 5 PM to 5:30 PM

On Friday, May 15, 2009, ITS will perform maintenance work to reboot each Netapp filer head to make a configuration change. This work will affect different systems in the university including the connection to https://blackboard.unc.edu. During this maintenance window, https://blackboard.unc.edu will remain online. However, it will experience several brief interruptions of a few seconds each.

Spring 2009 Blackboard sites to be set to "Unavailable" on Tuesday, May 12, 2009

On Tuesday, May 12, 2009, ITS will set all Spring 2009 Blackboard course sites to be unavailable to students. After this change is made, students and guests will no longer see links for Spring 2009 sites when they log into https://blackboard.unc.edu/. Instructors, teaching assistants and course builders will still be able to access these sites as usual. Instructors or teaching assistants may continue to allow students to access these sites by making them available again.

Service interruptions during maintenance work scheduled for Friday, March 20, 2009 from 6 PM to 10 PM

On Friday, March 20, 2009, ITS will replace defective switches affecting different systems in the university including the connection to https://blackboard.unc.edu. During this maintenance window, https://blackboard.unc.edu will remain online. However, it will experience several brief interruptions (up to 75 seconds) as the bad switches are removed and the new ones are installed.

Please note that the Virtual Classroom and the Chat will be unavailable for up to 20 minutes while the rest of the Blackboard application will remain online. Unfortunately, it is not possible to predict the timeframe during which the Virtual Classroom and the Chat will be unavailable.

Please be advised that data loss might occur to those working in Blackboard during this maintenance period 6 PM to 10 PM due to the interruptions that the system will experience.
